Project Overview
This thesis project focuses on designing nutrition literacy interventions for "grandfamilies"—households where grandparents are primary caregivers for children under three years old, particularly in underserved communities in Pittsburgh. These families face heightened risks of nutrition-related health issues due to limited access to resources, systemic barriers, and emotional stress. The project aims to address these challenges by exploring essential nutritional knowledge, feeding practices, and existing habits while identifying barriers to accessing systemic support programs like SNAP and WIC. Using a participatory design approach, the research will actively involve community members, public health experts, and stakeholders to ensure the interventions are practical and tailored to the unique needs of grandfamilies.
This is an ongoing project, to see my progress please watch the presentation video, or navigate through the slides and document in the research section below.
RESEARCH PROCESS
How might we enhance nutrition literacy among grandparents to empower them in making healthier choices that improve their own well-being and
the health of their grandchildren?
